Lawyers practicing in will and estate planning benefit from also having an understanding of basic tax considerations in order to prepare an effective plan, administer an estate and identify more complex issues requiring the input of a tax lawyer or accountant.
Areet Kaila presented at the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC’s Basics of Wills and Estates Planning 2017 course. Her topics included taxation of lifetime transfers and gifts, tax consequences of death, taxation of estates and basic tax planning opportunities. Areet gave valuable insights and helpful tips to attendees, who included wills and estates lawyers and tax practitioners, to help them help their clients to develop a successful and tax-efficient will and estate plan.
