Representative Work

Planning and implementing tax effective domestic and international corporate reorganizations.

Advising on tax aspects of corporate and commercial transactions including mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations.

Advising clients on tax effective injections and distributions of capital.

Advising clients on the use of, and assisting with the establishment of, domestic trusts.

Advising clients on the tax aspects of acquisition and disposition of resource property.

Preparation of tax disclosures in public transactions.

Assisting clients in dispute resolutions including appeals from reassessments and appeals to the Tax Court of Canada.

Profile

Parveen Karsan is an associate with Clark Wilson LLP's Taxation Practice Group. She practices in corporate tax, with an emphasis on cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions and domestic corporate reorganizations. She also assists clients in the resolution of their tax disputes.

Parveen has completed all three parts of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' In-depth Tax Course. She has also attended "The Fundamentals of Canadian Mining Taxation" course (2008) and the "Tax Law for Lawyers" conference (2007). Parveen acted as Contributing Editor to "Taxation of Canadian Mining" (Carswell, 2009 Update).

Parveen received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree (with a concentration in accounting) from Simon Fraser University in 2001. She graduated from the University of Victoria in 2005 with a Bachelor of Laws.

While in law school, Parveen acted as Editor-in-Chief for the University of Victoria's legal publication. After law school, she completed her articles of clerkship at the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench. She worked in the tax group of a large national law firm for two years before transferring to a national tax boutique, where she spent several years.

Parveen was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2006 and the British Columbia Bar in 2007.
